How much power does my power supply need?
I am starting a new setup. I will use four 140mm fans, six 120 mm fans, and three for the cooler on the case. My power supply is a Corsair RM1000e rated at 1000 watts. I have an ASUS TUF GAMING NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER card. I have three Seagate Hard Drives running in SATA mode with two 16GB DDR5 memory sticks from Corsair. Some calculators show different numbers, so I'm not sure if the 1000W supply is enough or if I should upgrade to a 1200W one.
Power supply calculators are very accurate... IF you know what you're getting into. Think about the power needs for future games or apps. Are there many capacitors that will age quickly? Will the graphics card draw a lot of peak power right now? How much power will it use if I overclock it? It's okay to have more power than needed. The 1000-watt unit will just take what you give it and nothing else. Even 1000 watts is plenty. Also, having too many fans is not always the best choice. Better cooling placement matters more. What brand and model of case do you have?
I don't speed up my system's processor because I'm not sure why and it doesn't make a big deal to me. My cooling case is the Corsair 7000D which blows hot air.
