Hi, I just installed my new computer with an AMD FX-8300 processor. It comes with an MSI 970 Gaming MoBo, 16Gb Corsair Vengeance 1866 RAM, a Corsair H105 for CPU cooling, and a Corsair CX-750M power supply. I'm curious about how much performance this setup can deliver. The fans can be set to high speed, and the power usage isn't a major issue unless it risks damaging parts. My goal is to reach around 4.7 Ghz, but I'm unsure about the correct voltages for the CPU.

I own an Fx-8350 (not necessarily identical, but similar) and it has been O.C'd to 4.68. I've been using it for roughly nine months in this manner. Stable overnight runs with Prime95.

The voltages are specific to the CPU. It's best to avoid exceeding the voltage until a consistent clock speed is achieved.

This PSU isn't good, the CX series is completely unreliable.

ComputerSecurityGuy:
CPU voltages are quite specific. My suggestion is to avoid overvolting the chip until you can't reach a stable clock speed.
jhall18:
That's not a good power supply, the CX series isn't reliable at all. That's what I've heard. It was on sale for $45 when I bought it and I thought Corsair would make it good. I've been using it for 2.5 years now and there have been no issues so far.

William_S shared his thoughts on the topic.
Voltages are quite specific to the CPU, so he suggests avoiding overvolting until a stable clock speed is achieved.
jhall18 expressed concern about the power supply unit, noting it's not a good one and that the CX series isn't reliable.
He mentioned purchasing it for $45, thinking it would be good since it's Corsair, but has been using it for 2.5 years without issues.
He recommends getting a more dependable PSU before thinking about overclocking.

I own an Fx-8350 (though not identical, it's comparable) and have had it O.C'd to 4.68. I've been using it for roughly nine months, running it overnight with Prime95. They're quite alike, which is why I chose the 8300. I could achieve similar results at a lower cost.
