How much damage to a PCIE Riser cable is too much?
Looking for the best solution here. The question is about determining when damage becomes unacceptable. In my assessment, the plastic sleeve was affected while the metal sleeve remained intact. So, should I: 1. Keep using the riser as it is and plan an upgrade later (may add some electrical tape for added safety) or 2. Replace it immediately and get a new one?
This situation involves significant damage and it's not worth the effort to replace a card. Pcie risers are extremely delicate—the metal insulation is visible, making the likelihood of success low and the risk of failure even higher. It's not worth spending money on parts for a cable that costs around $25.
Prices in Europe are around €25, with popular brands costing between 30 and 70. Still, it's less than a new GPU. Guess it's new.
