Hello Sam, my internet is really fast, faster than 1Gbps. My router has a 2.5Gbps Ethernet port on it. That cable goes straight into my Apple AirPort Extreme 6th gen. Then I have two cables: one plugs directly into my PC, and the other goes into a switch so I can hardwire things like my Xbox One, Xbox 360, and some other stuff. My motherboard has only a 1Gbps port, but I'm not planning to upgrade my computer this year unless I buy more RAM. Anyway, the house was rewired with high-speed Cat7a cables. So, I plan on getting a PCIE card for Ethernet speeds of at least 2.5Gbps. Since the airport is only one Gbps port, what do I need? Will I have to add a new switch or can I just use an RJ45 splitter 1-in-2-out? What's the best way to fix this? Basically, how should I get the speed I want? By this, I mean, the cheapest option. I know 10Gbps switches are super expensive right now, though not sure when they'll come down to a reasonable price. Can you help me get the best speed possible?
This: "high speed cat7a." Who put this cable in, where did I buy it? Wall jacks or patch panels? Full cable specs? What stuff is written on the cable length? Take pictures of the cable, devices, installation and post them here via imgur (www.imgur.com). Be careful to not show any personal info. You might need some switches but no splitters. However, everything could be useless if the cable isn't right and not installed properly.
If you worry about things like file transfers, they will only go as fast as the weakest part in the chain. When it comes to internet access, there is little reason to buy a computer that can do more than it really needs if you don't have big files to transfer or if you are just trying to watch high-quality video streams. Basically, new wiring isn't important unless your whole system is being rebuilt. It will work the same way as before.
Hello sorry I'm out of town... I've been having trouble lately… anyway… I'm showing you pictures of how our house is wired. A guy from Virgin Media told me that the cable I need to make sure things stay future-proof, because I had old cables mixed with some newer ones. I mostly had Cat 5 running through the whole house and was paying for a 300Mbps speed plan, so we upgraded everything to Cat 7A. We have Ethernet switches both on the ground floor and upstairs. We got that new hub from last year which ran about 1.15 to 1.2 gigabytes per second (according to SamKnows). What is the best way to attach a picture? I also have an adapter for my PCI card in my Amazon cart so it can plug into an Ethernet port.
I need to know the specific brand, model, and year you bought this hub because it is uncommon to find one inside a home. Usually, people just use an ethernet switch to make their network longer.
The new hub is just like the old hub five. We had a broken hub three before hub three was released, maybe around 2015 or 2016? I don't remember when they installed the cat5 cable, but it must have been back then, about twenty years ago, maybe done by NTL back in 2001... not sure if those old cables even worked for that. downstairs we don't need gigabit speeds so keeping the switch is fine. upstairs I like those switches too, just wanting my PC to run as fast as possible since it does a lot of stuff. Before I paid for five hundred megabits but couldn't get past one hundred before upgrading to cat 7a then that new hub made my external hubs useless so now I had to put an airport extreme first gen outside and use two more ports to extend the internet halfway down my garden now the hub covers my whole home. just wanting my PC to run as fast on both internal and internet speeds.
Aha, that makes sense, sure it's a media hub. A "media hub" isn't exactly like a regular hub, even though different speeds and ports should already tell you there is no plain hub involved. So let's look at the real question: To be honest, I've never used anything faster than 1Gbps in my home, but if you go above that speed, it puts more demand on the cable. So I don't recommend putting an RJ45 splitter on it here.
