How many games haven't been played are you seeing in your Steam collection?
I’m not sure if this is just my own feeling, but since I started playing PC games, I often end up buying many titles and rarely actually playing them. Instead, I stick to the games I already know and can jump into quickly—like Overwatch. It feels like I don’t have much motivation to invest time in new stuff after work or when free. - Do you experience this too? On the flip side, when I’m not gaming, I sometimes think about trying something new, but I never actually do it. My collection includes big-name titles, but I haven’t played many of them—even games like Assassins Creed: Valhalla or Far Cry 4/5. Plus, my setup is pretty powerful, so there’s really nothing stopping me. - This isn’t about bragging; most of the games I bought on sale are still available for less now. It’s ironic because by the time I actually play them, they’re often cheaper than what I paid for. I also know a lot of people buy lots of games during Steam sales but never finish them. When I used to be a console gamer, I’d try any game I had and discover hidden gems I wouldn’t have bought otherwise—games like Stranglehold and Viva Piñata come to mind.
Poll guidelines:
- Unplayed means less than an hour of playtime, such as adjusting settings or prepping for a future session that never happens.
- Include non-Steam titles if they’re solid games.
- Free-to-play games count if you have them installed and are genuinely interested.
- For this poll, I’m counting 10+ hours of games rather than short indie gems.
I receive many game packs, such as the valve and a simpler one with around 50 titles. Adjust if you exclude games under an hour; there are actually 140 unplayed ones, and most of them are on Steam except a few I misplaced or bought again from the store due to platform issues. It was worth it to repurchase *cough* Windows Store *cough*
We're playing 197 matches right now. Only 23 of them are scheduled, which isn't ideal.
I’m not sure about those numbers or Steam client data in general. It seems I own many unknown games, mostly free-to-play ones, which might inflate the stats. Games I’ve never heard of or purchased shouldn’t be included. Edit: actually, I can’t locate them, but I think I saw them (like CSGO, etc.). I also have a custom skin, maybe that’s why they’re hidden—it looks different from the standard one. Honestly, if I buy a game, I usually play it right away or as soon as possible. If I just glance at it for 5-10 minutes, I’ll test whether it works and if not, I’ll delete it quickly. I understand not everyone has time or space to install every title, but for me, this is essential. If I think I don’t have time or room, I won’t buy them—so I avoid the “Steam sales trap” because I know others would be just like me, leaving many games unplayed.
My Steam collection holds 1915 titles, while GOG has 339. Occasionally, GOG lets you transfer some of your Steam games to their platform for free access. In my extensive spreadsheet tracking all my games across platforms, I own over 2000 titles and have played about 177, with another 55 unplayed, meaning I’ve engaged with roughly 10% of them. Many of these come from bundles purchased, where the overall cost is cheaper than buying each game separately.
