How is Battlefield HL?
I genuinely believe the games I’ve played so far have offered a more engaging battlefield than what Dice delivers in BF4. The online experience for me and my friends is definitely different—still more impressive than BF4. On Dust Bowl, the ability to switch music and exit the window for a drive-by added a lot of excitement, far exceeding my initial expectations. This might have been enhanced by playing with friends, but I had a lot of fun and close encounters. I really enjoyed the in-game currency system, though it could use some adjustments. The class balance also felt off; the assault class still seems to pack a strong arsenal with medpack included. The Visceral team has some impressive Easter eggs, even if it’s a bit of a stretch. I’m impressed by the hidden reloads—something new and creative. You can even personalize your emblem on a wall, which I thought was cool. There was one game mode that felt a bit clunky, hotwire, and it needs more balance—you actually have to hotwire before you can drive off. It should take around 20-30 seconds, and there should be fewer cars to cap. Too many scattered ones would be overwhelming. I also felt the XP boosts from battlepacks were underwhelming, turning them into mere numbers. Still, the new objective areas are a big improvement over just circles around flags. If Visceral had raised the price slightly at launch (though I doubt it), it could have really challenged Dice. The pre-order discount is a bit harsh with those XP bonuses, but it’s not the same as COD. Overall, it’s a polished experience compared to BF4, even if Dust Bowl felt a bit rushed at first.
