How do you properly use thermal paste?
Everyone has their own preferred method, which is quite frustrating. Some recommend placing a dot in the middle, others suggest an "x," some propose an "x" with dots in each quadrant, and a few even recommend spreading it out using a spatula (though I haven't purchased one).
You can reuse an old plastic membership card or an unused credit card. Alternatively, use a glove and apply thermal paste with your finger over the IHS. The recommended processor depends on its size. If your cooler already has thermal paste applied, you don’t need to remove it for any aftermarket work. This article might be useful:

You must apply thermal paste to the CPU's IHS before putting the cooler in. Be sure to take off the protective plastic from the cooler's base, or you risk poor thermal performance.
Still, since you'll need to add thermal paste during installation, you can opt for Arctic's MX-06 instead of the paste provided with the cooler.
Thank you very much for your help. I really regret doing this, I wish I went prebuilt lol. I dropped the cpu in but was paranoid I did it wrong, removed it, checked the pins. did it again, wasn't satisfied, removed it and checked again, and then for a third time put it in and have to just accept it and move on.
You have no guarantee if it was done right, just hope I guess?
You used isopropyl alcohol to remove the thermal paste, correct?

Do you have a small roll of wrap in your kitchen cupboard? If you apply it yourself, cover your finger to prevent mixing paste with skin oil. You don’t need a large amount—just enough to form a thin layer, keeping about a millimeter away from the edges. I tend to spread the paste by myself because achieving even patterns like dots or crosses requires absolute straightness. It helps to do this confidently the first time without second-guessing. Using a finger gives you more control and accuracy compared to a credit card.
It all comes down to how the cooler is set up. Usually the dot technique is effective, though it's hard to verify. You might need to keep applying paste several times to see how it spreads before you're confident. If you're patient, you should be fine.
