How do u feel about Steam Xmas Sale 2014
It was a successful sale, though I’m not sure what everyone anticipated since they seemed quite let down. I bought titles such as Age of Mythology EX at 75% off, BattleBlock Theater over 80% off, Wolf Among Us at 75%, Total War Rome II at 75%, Civ Beyond Earth at 40% off, Child of Light at 75%, plus three more budget-friendly games. I found a lot of great games at steep discounts—either I already owned them or they weren’t on my radar right then.
I believe the issue lies in the 2-per-year sales pattern clashing with the release timeline. Many feel frustrated because they already possess discounted items purchased six months ago. These promotions remain an excellent opportunity to secure great deals on games nearing their release. It's similar to gambling—rather than committing large sums upfront, you choose specific titles and wait for the right price point. Otherwise, you risk disappointment and ending up with unwanted products.
It was great I got Risk of Rain, FTL, Tomb Raider 2013, and Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition for a total of like $17. It was good to see Ubisoft titles like Far Cry 4 and AC: Unity on for like 20% off
I thought it made sense. Most of the titles I wanted were fairly recent, so I wasn't anticipating massive savings. What really mattered was staying within my budget. EDIT: For those curious about my purchases: Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance Styx: Master of Shadows, The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, Valiant Hearts: The Great War Never Alone, Spy Chameleon Poker Night 2.
I haven't purchased anything yet; I'm just hoping for GTA V and Project Cars.
I felt a bit let down, but at least the discount on FC4 was just 15%. It’s not fair to point the finger at Steam.
I wasn't very impressed either. The ongoing steam promotions might be the issue. Steam deals were bigger before there were so many of them.
I believe the disappointment surrounding this recent sale stems from several factors. For many, it isn't the first Steam discount they've experienced, so these deals come naturally and we tend to purchase a reasonable variety of popular titles, leaving less for future purchases. Another significant point is that 2014 wasn't particularly strong in the gaming market, which naturally led to fewer games available for sale. Beyond these points, there aren't many other notable aspects to highlight. Personally, I felt the sale fell short because it didn't include the games I truly wanted, unlike my first Steam deal where I bought a wide selection. Compared to past sales, some users might notice a shift toward more card-based activities and less emphasis on gameplay itself. While I wasn't present for this specific event, I suspect it could have focused more on achievements rather than monetary rewards, shifting attention away from the games themselves.
