How do I swap out my laptop's keyboard?
Hello everyone! I need to swap out my keyboard because the old one got wet. My laptop is an Asus model that looks like the one shown here: https://youtu.be/mXJtMwTWqvY?t=162 (Sorry, no good English videos, so I hope you understand.) The original keyboard was connected to the top cover using tiny plastic pins, but those pins melted because I took it apart. Most of them are broken now. How do I attach a new keyboard to that same top cover or palm rest? Using a soldering gun isn't possible since most pins are gone. Another idea is hot glue, but some people hate that because the heat melts the glue quickly at around 79.4°C (just like Google said). Laptops get very hot during summer when you use them hard, so gluing there is risky. Also, hot glue isn't super durable. Over time, if you start typing and shake your hand a little bit, the glue might fall off completely. Should I try super glue instead? Its melting point is 165°C (according to Google), but it's way too high so I can't remove it later. Another option is buying a new top cover that already has a keyboard stuck to it. Is this the best choice? What do you think about attaching a keyboard like this? Which method gives me the best feeling when I use my laptop in summer? Thanks for reading! PS: Those no-screw parts are annoying too. Edit: Maybe I should have posted here instead of on the "Laptop Tech Support" section? Edit 2: Thanks, anon moderator.
I've built computers all through the 90s and into today, but I really don't know much about laptops. Switching parts like a keyboard or screen on one is tricky because you can easily snap plastic pieces in the wrong spots. If that happens to you, just call someone who knows what they're doing instead of trying to fix it yourself.
