Hey there! I’ve got a question about overclocking my FX 8320e CPU. I’m aiming for around 4.0 to 4.2 GHz and want it to stay under 125 watts. I have a solid motherboard (ASUS 970 Pro Gaming/Aura) and a decent cooler (CM Hyper 212 Evo). At full load, the CPU never exceeded 35°C and only used about 70W, so there’s plenty of room for a boost.

I’m planning to use Cinebench for stress testing and cpuid for monitoring temperatures and other stats. I’ve heard prime95 is popular but worry it might not be safe for FX CPUs. Are there any other programs I should consider?

My RAM is 8GB G.Skill RipJaws at 1600MHz, and I noticed that hitting 1866MHz improved performance on FX CPUs. Should I also overclock my RAM?

I’m playing games like Forza Horizon 3, GTA V, CS:GO, Battlefield 1, and Overwatch. Will overclocking give me a noticeable improvement?

Finally, once I reach 4.0+ GHz, will it perform similarly to the FX 8350?

Thanks for your advice!

Videos aren't the best method for learning this stuff; look for posts about AMD overclocking. Review the manual as well. Generally, you start by entering BIOS, locate the multiplier setting, adjust it to manual and increase it slightly. Test and repeat with a higher value. When stability issues appear, check the CPU voltage settings in BIOS, set them to manual and raise them slightly, then retest, repeating the process until you find what works best. It's important to monitor temperatures closely. Use AMD Overdrive for more accurate results on AMD systems, as it includes stability tests and valid benchmarks. Make sure logging is enabled so you can track what happens during testing or benchmarking.

Overclocking an "E" processor goes against its intended function (to consume less energy).
The simplest method is to increase the multiplier with a suitable higher voltage. This avoids needing to upgrade memory or install faster RAM, which offers limited benefit.
OCting it to 8350 will not improve performance since the same processor was selected for its low-power capabilities.

Videos aren't the most effective method for learning this topic; instead, look for posts that discuss AMD overclocking. Also, refer to the manual. When stability issues appear, check the CPU voltage settings in BIOS, set them to manual and raise them slightly, then retest. Continue this process and observe the results. It's important to monitor temperatures closely. Using AMD Overdrive is recommended as it provides more accurate readings for AMD systems, includes stability tests, and offers valid benchmarks. Make sure logging is enabled so you can track what happens during testing or benchmarking.
