It's a compact mini drive, and I attempted to fix it using an external HDD that I had backed up the PC on the night it was purchased. When I tried restoring, it said everything is complete, but some files failed to load, showing over 200 files that couldn't be recovered. The computer appears as though I never actually restored anything.

It seems like you're referring to an XP error. Could you clarify what you mean?

If you install Windows XP, it might lower the overall performance and value compared to starting with Windows 7.

I found a USB flash drive with HP OS installed for netbooks (Windows 7 starter). I can always send it to you via torrent.

Otherwise, I’ll need to obtain a DL DVD to copy it (it’s stored on an 8 gig flash drive). If you prefer the second choice, I can send you the disc directly since DVDs are inexpensive. Alternatively, the third option would involve purchasing a USB flash drive, sending it here, and I’d mail it back. The thumb drive should work fine.

Yes, I can guide you through the process. A factory reset will erase all data on your device. To find out your location, please tell me your country or region.

Getting the U.S. system online is straightforward, though handling the media presents its own hurdle (if you need to reach HP, I spent 45 minutes on the phone arguing with them because they had bloatware installed spyware). The media comes in Windows 7 Starter SNPC HP-branded. The USB drive includes a COA, but this shouldn’t be needed since the original Windows key is built into your BIOS chip. HP pulls the key from your motherboard. Your netbook likely has its own COA (a sticker with a holographic strip).
