You can use the steam overlay. Shift+Tab. There's a setting in there to show FPS.

The FPS overlay in Shadowplay isn't functioning properly for me. I've reinstalled it multiple times, but it still doesn't work as expected.
I noticed Shadowplay had problems unless I played it in full screen. I usually like a borderless windowed setup, so I use Steam's built-in FPS counter. You can also set it up that way. But if you start crashing often when FRAPS is open, close it out—it can cause issues for some users.
