How do I boot Ubuntu?
You have an old HP Compaq Desktop without an OS on its drive. The mounting pegs were missing, so it didn’t fit. You’re having trouble booting Ubuntu and encountering disk errors. To install Ubuntu from a flash drive, prepare a bootable USB, format it with the right partition layout, and then insert it into your old PC to start the installation process.
UNetbootin's storage device failed and Windows Defender blocked Etcher, preventing it from launching as well
UNetbootin isn't worth it. Opt for Etcher or Rufus to create the ISO/BIN file. Etcher works as an app image package; I don’t understand why Windows blocks it, but you can point Defender at the right place. The correct download link is https://etcher.io/. Rufus is a native Windows utility and should function well if used properly. Use dd mode for the transfer.
