How cooked am I ?
I just bought an ASRock b650m pg lightning with a R5 7500F. I haven’t updated my PC in about three years and thought ASRock was decent. Now I’m worried the AM5 mobos won’t work with modern CPUs. I already own the board and can’t swap it. Should I upgrade to a newer CPU or keep using this one?
The CPU overheating occurred because the BIOS settings, specifically standard PBO, were too aggressive for certain processors. ASRock has now issued an update to adjust the PBO profile. Make sure you're using the latest BIOS version for optimal performance.
Based on my reasoning, ASUS appears to be the least reliable option since they were among the first to release 3D CPU models. The Asrock B650M PG Lightning is a decent build, though a higher-end board would have been preferable. The second lowest AM5 Ryzen should still perform adequately. I haven't encountered any reports of BIOS issues on that motherboard.
