I had a home lab computer with several hard disks and no GPU. It began crashing and hanging. On the Proxmox forums, they suggested checking memory and PSU. Memory was fine, and with the PSU I swapped it out. The original PSU in the computer was a Corsair RM850e, a couple of years old but out of warranty for perhaps a year. Before disposing of it, is there a test I can run on it? It hadn’t even collected the usual amount of dust inside. 🤣 How can I test?

The simplest approach is to choose the tester level you're comfortable with, or a multi-meter that needs existing expertise.
The most affordable testers offer only a broad response and shouldn't be considered the complete picture.

RM850e still under warranty? Unlikely. RMe was launched in 2022 with a 7-year guarantee! I question if the PSU is the issue. Could you share the complete system specifications? Which BIOS version is installed on the motherboard?

Use a multimeter or a PSU tester to check the output values.

The basic "paper clip" method only verifies a dead power supply unit. It provides no information on how the PSU functions when under load. You can purchase affordable PSU testers for around $15, such as the one listed here: https://www.amazon.com/Computer-PC-Teste...B076CLNPPK. A more detailed tester, costing about $50k and requiring expert interpretation, is available. Avoid sending the RM850e to regular channels; instead, contact Corsair for a return authorization. For more assistance, include the make and model of all your components.
