Hi,
I see your 11-year-old is having trouble with low FPS and lag on his setup. He’s using an AMD Ryzen 5 5600G with a GTX 1080 and a fast SSD, but the performance isn’t great. Could you think of ways to boost it?

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800x3D
GPU: NVidia GTX 4070 or similar from AMD.
RAM: 2x16GB DDR4 at 3600mHz.
This setup should significantly boost performance without major changes and last for a long time.

5700X3D is also a viable choice. It wasn't specified which PSU was used, which plays a significant role when choosing a GPU upgrade. The GTX1080 performed well for its time, and newer models are equally efficient but require more power. You might achieve significantly better performance per dollar with an AMD RX6800 and its 16GB VRAM, especially at higher settings.

RTX 4070 priced at $540
RTX 4070 Super at $580 (offers a much improved value compared to the 4070, roughly 90% of a 4070 Ti)
RX6800 at $360
RX7700XT at $390

For performance comparisons, check the links provided; some cards are missing but the RX 6800 would lag behind the 6800XT, while the 4070 Super should outperform the RTX 3080 10GB and possibly surpass the RTX 3090.

Consider reducing the settings and turning on FSR to achieve higher scaling instead of native rendering. Aim for under 8GB of VRAM by removing less critical details such as shadow quality and slightly lowering texture resolution.

The monitor offers a resolution of 1080p and a refresh rate of 100Hz. The Avatar settings are set to the minimum level, utilizing the GeForce Experience launcher in optimized mode at 1080 resolution.

Look for FSR as an option.

It seems the setup meets the basic requirements for 30FPS. If you want a better visual experience, consider lowering the resolution to 720 at least. Then you can gradually increase it again if needed.

Begin with the basic components.
Clean the internals thoroughly—ensure heatsinks, fans, and filters are spotless.
Test everything.
Refresh the BIOS.
Check the drivers.
Confirm RAM operates at 3200.
