How can I make this Intel Optane Drive with SSD storage show up in the Windows 11 installer?
I have been handling this laptop intermittently over the past three weeks. The customer mentioned a blue screen after performing a Windows 11 update, and they suggested we could simply reinstall Windows. Unbeknownst to me, one of my colleagues had previously formatted the storage drive, which I didn’t witness during the blue screen event. When attempting to install Windows from a USB drive, the internal storage wasn’t visible. I proceeded with the installation via a USB, but encountered issues. I visited the HP website to look for the appropriate storage driver. The drive in question is an Intel Optane Memory H10 with Solid State Storage (32GB Optane / 512GB NAND) on a laptop model HP 15-ep1035nr equipped with an Intel I7 11th Gen processor.
I retrieved the latest Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver, extracted the necessary files, and attempted to install it using the Windows USB. During this process, I selected the option to install the Intel RST VMD controller 9A0B. This action caused the Optane Memory to appear in the system but not the 512GB NAND storage. I also tried installing the driver directly from the Intel website, but the same outcome occurred.
I checked the RAID and VMD settings within the BIOS, though most options were unavailable. The only setting that might influence this was secure boot, which remains enabled. Despite these adjustments, the Optane drive still doesn’t display in the BIOS, and the NAND storage isn’t visible. I also experimented with another Optane drive, but the results were identical.
I’m uncertain whether I’ve downloaded the correct driver for the SSD or if there’s something missing. I have photographs and screenshots of most of the steps taken. Thank you in advance.
I would simply remove the optane/ssd drive and operate with a regular SSD. Optane was suitable for spinning drives and early SSDs but is no longer required. Also, Windows 11 now employs SysMain which preloads frequently used applications into your RAM, essentially performing the same function as optane.
