If the circumstances are as described and there’s no access to mains or vehicle power, I’d seriously think about purchasing a new laptop. The current one only lasts about an hour on battery, whereas a modern model lasting 10 to 20 hours would be far more practical.

A compact folding solar panel, along with a charge controller, DC-DC converter, and battery pack, could complete the setup. However, this adds cost and bulk to a backpack.

This option includes two 5V USB ports at 2.4A each, ideal for charging USB battery banks, plus an 18V 5A output for older laptops. The weight is 4.73lb (2.15kg). It costs US $193.99 and is available on Amazon.

This 100W solar panel charger isn’t ideal if you can’t leave it in direct sunlight for several hours to recharge batteries. On cloudy or rainy days, charging times would double or triple. Since many modern laptops use USB-C PD charging rather than 18/19V, this solar panel might not be the optimal choice.

I wouldn’t recommend carrying a heavy laptop—typically around 5lb (2.25kg) with a mains power supply—plus a solar charging system (4.73lb/2.15kg), and a USB power bank (1lb4oz/0.6kg)—especially on a long hike. That totals about 11lb (5kg). A lighter tablet might be more convenient to transport.

It seems like a good idea to use a laptop or gaming PC during camping, but only if you've been doing a lot of hiking or rock climbing before. 😛
