How about NAT2 with moderate stuff happening when I talk to you over a chat?
Hi everyone, I've been playing two games on my PC lately: Elden Ring and Ready or Not. Both of these games need to connect using a P2P connection. When I host a game in RoN, no one ever joins the lobby. It takes forever, like once every couple days someone finally shows up after waiting 15 minutes. The same problem happens with Elden Ring whenever I try to invite people over; the connections always fail. This issue is on my PS4 too and it says my NAT type connection is "moderate." I searched online for solutions but didn't find anything helpful, so instead of just opening specific ports (which isn't really an option here), I tried setting up a DMZ with a static IP address. Even though that should open all the ports, nothing changed. Next, I turned off Windows Defender and my firewall completely, but no luck there either. Then I checked using telnet to see if those ports were actually open, and they weren't even after turning the firewall off or putting them in the DMZ. Websites like canyouseeme didn't let me connect either. So what should I do? Also, UPnP is active on my modem. If I fix this issue, will other people still be able to join my games?
In games you see NAT2 after putting DMZ and turning off the firewall? Sites like Canyouseeme try to listen to ports but if your game isn't running nothing listens on those ports. You can't test a service when it's not running. Some services stay quiet too so they show up as empty when sniffed. You should check for other firewalls sometimes people have two routers without realizing it. I suggest only opening the specific ports you need. Opening many things will let traffic in to your client and someone could set up local file shares, etc Bots are always trying to get into services on the WAN which is why inbound connections are normally blocked by default.
I actually figured it out. It's not something on my part; it is the internet service provider. They assigned me a CGNAT pool, so I can't touch the modem ports at all. To get fixed access to the internet, I have to ask them for a static IP address and pay a monthly fee. That is probably going to be too much money, so I won't do it.
