Home networking
Hello everyone, I hope this message finds you well. First, please accept my sincere apology for the poor formatting. I’m currently using a phone because of limited internet options. I’ve just moved into a new apartment where the internet is shared among the landlord, other tenants, and myself. Everything is connected via Wi-Fi, but I’m not comfortable with devices being on a common network. The landlord has agreed to run a cable directly to my unit so I can set up my own network. This raises several questions: What type of router should I purchase? How should it be configured? Will it keep my devices separate from the rest of the network? Can I use a different DNS server than the others? Thank you in advance for any guidance, and please let me know if I’ve misunderstood anything.
Essentially any router will suffice. Simply connect the network via the wn port and the devices through the lan port. This isolates your equipment. However, I don’t perceive a major security concern from this setup—it’s not a significant risk. You can also configure a different DNS on your router. Alternatively, you can set up another DNS without needing a router.
No special setup concerns mentioned. Just ensure your network configuration aligns with your requirements.
It seems you're looking for an alternative IP range instead of the existing LAN network. This should work quite smoothly.
