I am searching for a home inventory tool to monitor my personal belongings. I plan to set it up on a Raspberry Pi, but I’m open to any device that works. All the options I’ve seen are designed for store stock management. My goal is to keep track of my items in case of theft, so I can quickly provide a list to the police or insurance if needed. Any recommendations, whether free or paid, would be appreciated.

I once thought about launching a business around this idea but never acted on it. I would have gathered pictures, model numbers, and serial numbers of household items and given the owner a CD/DVD with their collection. The business would have used an Access database stored off-site (my idea was more about preparing for natural disasters than dealing with thefts). For my personal inventory, I’d simply rely on an Excel spreadsheet or a basic notepad document.

I capture photos of each object I worry might be taken away during a robbery. I obtain the full item details and then a picture of the model and serial number when available. These files are stored in cloud storage for clear reasons. Previously, I maintained a spreadsheet, but law enforcement didn't pay much attention to that part.

I would like to have the database and include the pictures to keep everything in one place. The robberies I've seen usually destroy the area and paperwork. I wanted to use the database with off-site storage like the cloud.

If you're not discussing large quantities, a neatly organized OneNote book in the cloud will suffice.
