Higher clocks = lower score?
Higher clocks = lower score?
GPU - GTX 1060 3Gb
CPU - i5 3570
I began gradually increasing my GPU's overclocking and achieved a solid 160MHz+ on the core and 500MHz+ on memory. This resulted in an average of 67.1 fps on Heaven Ultra, extreme tessellation, and x8 AA. I also checked 3DMark's Time Spy, which showed 4001. The temperatures stayed manageable at around 48°C during load, so I attempted to push it further to 170 MHz.
I performed a stress test with Time Spy and succeeded with 99.4%. After looping Heaven Ultra a few times without any artifacts or instability, I ran the benchmarks again. Heaven's performance fell to an average of 65.6 fps. I repeated the tests multiple times at both 160 and 170MHz+, consistently getting similar results.
I’m wondering what might be wrong with my OC unit? Could it be a power issue? Is lower performance actually indicating instability? Interestingly, Time Spy improved slightly to 4029.
Thanks for your help and apologies for the poor English.
It's possible.
Find your
max OC
first. Then lower the core clock by 25 or more. (50 or more for memory).
For example: +200 > artifacts/freeze > +175
Should be enough unless it's faulty.
Max your power limit
limit too if you haven't done so.
Those temps are excellent. You living inside a freezer?
when using afterburner, you should increase the power limit while overclocking the GPU/GDDR

It's better to use multiple tests and compare them to get a reliable result. What kind of tests are you considering?

Thanks for the tip! I'm using precision X and my power limit is currently at 116%

It's better to use multiple tests rather than relying on just one bench. Running several different tests and averaging the results gives a more reliable outcome.
Thanks for the suggestion, which test would you suggest?
