High temperatures with the AMD 5600X cooler?
I recently acquired a Corsair 4000D Airflow, which required installing four 120mm fans and replacing the original ones. I also purchased an AIO featuring two 140mm fans that hasn’t arrived yet. Despite these upgrades, my CPU with the newly installed Artic mx-4 still runs at idle temperatures between 60°C and 70°C. My GPU idle has improved from 60°C to 45°C, which is excellent, but my CPU continues to overheat. I recall seeing many users report sub-50°C idle temps on stock 5600X cooling solutions. I’m aware that my AIO will arrive next week, but I wanted to check if there’s anything I’m doing incorrectly. I’m not very familiar with intake and exhaust setups, so I suspect the issue might lie there. I only faced the rear fan and three front fans, which means the Corsair logo is pointing inward. It might also help to note that I used both Core Temp and RivaTunerStatistics to monitor my CPU temperatures.
These chips are built to handle high temperatures, reaching up to 90-95°C as noted in the AMD PC Gamer article.
I just swapped the three front fans to intake positions, kept the rear as exhaust, and put the two 140mm fans I had for my AIO up top as exhaust—even though I don’t have the radiator yet. My idle stays around 60C to 70C, but the minimum reading is still a few degrees lower than expected. Maybe it’s the original cooler.
Additionally, for those who might be interested, I was running at 82°C under a moderate load before (playing risk of rain 2 with PBO). I plan to test this now to check if adjusting the fans and adding two extra top exhausts improves my load temperatures. I expect the temperatures to stay consistent, though my PBO could rise further.
