High temperatures during use, power management, thermal performance, and endurance ratings
A few days back I upgraded my setup. My old Ryzen 5 3600 and Mobo (b350) I gifted to my girlfriend served as an upgrade compared to her 1600x. However, for some reason the 3600 began behaving oddly. As shown in the screenshot I captured of Ryzen master, its temperatures hovered around 70°C and PPT, TDC and EDC were nearly at their limits when the system was idle. I looked into Task Manager but didn’t spot anything consuming that much CPU power. I examined everything for my own experience—swapped the motherboard to a b450 I had on hand, updated the BIOS for both boards, installed the chipset driver, and changed the power scheme multiple times. Still, nothing resolved the issue. Setting a base voltage of 1.31 didn’t help either. It only occurs occasionally when she leaves the PC to do something else. When she plays games—mostly Valorant—the temperatures stay below 55°C (verified with MSI afterburner). Also, it seems her core voltage fluctuates wildly, dropping to 0.9 and jumping up to 1.4 before falling again. It’s an ongoing problem, and I have no idea what’s going on. When using it as my primary system, everything worked perfectly. For cooling, she uses a Be Quiet cooler rated for 120TDP (same as mine) and Artic Silver paste. That always kept things running smoothly, even during stress tests with Cinebench three times. Anyone have any insights into what’s happening?
