I often adjust my settings when playing Rocket league or similar games, but my ping stays steady at 17-20. When I get that lag, it never gets worse. I suspect the problem lies with my computer itself. Since I’m on campus, I can’t check my modem. I’ve tried updating BIOS, refreshing drivers, resetting CPU overclock to default, reinstalling the game, and disabling dynamic tick settings. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

It seems like the issue is about responsibility—someone might think it's not your fault, but you could try a different server. Unfortunately, not everyone has reliable internet access.

It seems you're checking with nearby servers on campus. Results will vary depending on the location. Ping times might be affected by network conditions within the university, but external speeds won't reflect that.

You get to pick your servers, and since I'm on the east coast I definitely go with US East. It's pretty limited—just US East and US West.

Choose a SpeedTest server outside any North Carolina university, community college, public school or hospital network. Those locations are likely MCNC/NCREN customers, and your results won’t actually reach the internet—they’re coming from NCREN itself. It’s probably that your UNC campus is either blocking traffic or at least not prioritizing gaming. MCNC doesn’t block by default, but they do help customers keep nonessential traffic off the network as much as possible. The outcome isn’t surprising if this isn’t working well.
