High idle temperatures, VR VOUT remains static unless using power save power plan (13700k/g 790i edge)
After checking overclock.net, I verified if the speed shift setting is turned off in the BIOS. When VR VOUT drops during idle—even with boost active—I noticed it remained steady near 1.25V despite adaptive CPU voltage. This occurred under a balanced power plan (CPU states 5/100%). The CPU downclocks normally, and Vcore decreases. Switching to power save mode caused VR VOUT to stabilize in idle, matching expected behavior. Idle temperatures dropped about 10°C, and power consumption fell from 15W to roughly 6W. C-states and EIST stayed enabled. Enabling turbo boost seems to keep VR VOUT high even when idle. Possible solutions could involve adjusting speed shift or power management settings.
