I bought a vengeance pro DDR3 kit that seems to resist starting at 1600 MHz. The PC came with 1600MHz RAM, but after installing this kit it shows up as 1333MHz in system utilities. I suspect someone may have altered the labels during sales. I removed every stick and checked them carefully—no heat sinks were taken off. It should be a PC3-12800 according to CPU-Z, which matches what the replacement RAM displays in Task Manager. I took a photo of the new RAM (though I’m aware not to test more than two sticks at once, as that’s how it looked in 2012 with 10GB RAM). I also checked for a BIOS update, but none was available. The HP BIOS interface is very limited and isn’t providing much help. Any advice would be appreciated.
I saved the Intel Extreme Tuning Utility (mainly for diagnostics) and managed to adjust the RAM speed and CL settings with an XMP profile. The system now shows 1600mhz via Intel XTU, CPU-Z, and Windows. Performance benchmarks improved accordingly, confirming it functioned correctly.
Access the BIOS settings and turn on XMP support. Look for instructions on enabling it and ensure it matches the advertised performance you expect. Find a tutorial online that demonstrates the process so it functions correctly.
