High-end Ryzen 5 5600 performance with unusual components
Hello, your upgrade from the Ryzen 5 2600 to the 5600 caused some temperature surprises. With the same case, cooler, and closed chassis, the 2600 stayed near 60-61°C, while the 5600 reached up to 74°C and hovered around 66-67°C. It’s understandable given your case isn’t very ventilated and the build quality is limited. Using Arctic MX-4 paste helped a bit, but the higher temps are noticeable. Everything seems fine with the BIOS update to version 5.00 on the AsRock B450 Pro4 board.
ZetZet mentioned 66c makes sense, particularly in a poorly ventilated area. Increasing the fan during startup is typical. Adjusting fan settings in the BIOS can help resolve this issue. It should be monitored via H/W Monitor. Edited October 30, 2022 by Alinz Stupid autocorrect
They both share the same TDP, which means the number doesn’t clearly indicate a big difference. The 5600 boost offers stronger performance and more powerful cores, likely causing the temperature variations you noticed. Still, it isn’t noticeably hotter. Just sit back and appreciate your new chip.
It's typical for the 5600 to have greater heat density because of its compact production method, which also makes it operate more intensely.
It seems that's typical... most supporters do this as a "self-check," and it slightly disturbs a bit of dust each time (in theory).
