The archers formed a challenging boss fight. You can save your progress by manually backing up files in the designated folder—though that feels a bit unfair.
I suspect I might have skipped some of the full experience with the Greatshield of Artorias since I already had it. Most of the challenges—like dodging Ornstein’s lightning and Smough’s slam—can be avoided, which makes the shield feel less demanding. It still required a few attempts, especially against the Gargoyles, Sif, and Four Kings, but I’m glad to have enjoyed one of my favorite moments in the series.
I had to circle the ring and hit Ornstein hard every time he came at me, missing often but staying between him and Smough so I could avoid his strikes. Once you defeat Ornstein, it’s simple—just approach Smough and his only real move is a jump that releases electricity.
I already acquired another uchigatana from the Forest Hunters merchant and upgraded it to +15. I plan to retain the lightning one just in case I encounter a boss that requires its use, as the upgrade cost would otherwise be wasted on a titanite chunk. I appreciate the thrust attack capability of the uchigatana compared to the heavy attack move available with the iaito.
I'm really impressed by Dark Souls. I was so hooked on Bloodborne that I bought a PS3 just to experience the whole series. Demon's Souls was decent, but it didn't match the excitement of Bloodborne. Apart from the swamp level, Blighttown feels way more manageable compared to Bloodborne. Still, Dark Souls definitely raised the bar significantly. I found Bloodborne a bit more challenging, maybe because it was my first Souls game. But honestly, Dark Souls offers some amazing experiences. Sen's Fortress is one of the most interesting areas I've ever played, and Anor Londo is even better.
The DLC is part of the PC release but can be tricky to find and might be overlooked. It’s worth playing despite the hassle. Here’s how to get it (spoiler alert included): http://darksouls.wikidot.com/additional-content
Bloodborne shares similar challenges, and the DLC feels tougher compared to The Old Hunters DLC. It's been roughly three months since you last played it.
It's a fair observation, though it might be a bit personal. The DLC includes four bosses, and several of them appear on the majority of "Hardest Boss in Dark Souls" rankings. It seems to be From's approach to gradually increase difficulty in these expansions. The Dark Souls 3 DLCs are definitely more demanding compared to the original game, in my view.
Crystal Cave with those three invisible platforms is a bastard. LOL having to take two steps at a time to wait to see if snow lands on the area you want to step next or if it falls past so there is no platform. At least the boss fight was really easy there (killed Seath the Scaleless on my first try).
