I'm dealing with a gigabyte z170 k3 gaming motherboard, i3-6100 processor, an msi r9 390 with 1tb baracuda hdd, corsair lpx 8gb at 2133mhz, and a gigabyte 650w 80+bronze power supply. My concern is whether it's feasible to add another 16gb of RAM. Would upgrading the 8gb to 24gb be an issue? Or should I replace that as well? Thanks for your help, Gr Radza266

yeah you can add 16 more, but I recommend only 8GB more. 24GB is more than one would need for gaming. you can use the money you saved and sell your i3, then buy an i5-6600

After the new year, I considered upgrading to an i5-7600K or an i7-7700K.

The K CPUs, particularly the 7th generation models, come with a high price tag. If you're investing in an upscale CPU upgrade, consider selling your motherboard and opting for a Ryzen processor instead. For instance, the most affordable 7600K on eBay today is around $160 USD, whereas a new Ryzen 3 3100 costs about $110, and a suitable B450 board is roughly $70. The i5-6600 typically sells for under $100, and you might secure a better deal by placing a bid.

Sure thing! Your feedback is helpful, and I appreciate you thinking carefully about the costs. The combination of CPU and motherboard seems quite similar in price to an Intel CPU alone—great value indeed! Thanks a ton!

Sure, just checking if combining 16GB (two 8GB drives) with an existing 8GB drive will cause issues. It should work fine without problems.

Usually everything works well. Various sizes on one motherboard can function without any clear issues.

Additional details: A 7700K is roughly $300 on the used side (not available new). With $300 you could get a Ryzen 5 3600 and a solid B450 MOBO. The R5 3600 offers two extra cores and four more threads compared to the 7700K, delivering better gaming performance. This isn’t much, but I thought it’s worth sharing.
