Hey PC won't switch on. Have I swapped out the board and power supply yet?
I thought the power supply was the problem because it is my oldest part, and every time I turn on the PC I hear sparks. So I changed that one for a new one. Then I just plugged in the motherboard and some fans, no graphics card or CPU. The fans only spun for a second and then stopped completely. No electricity at all after that. So I guess maybe the motherboard was to blame too. I took it out and put another one that I am pretty sure works instead, then installed everything back: the CPU, RAM, GPU, etc. When I hit power, the same thing happened. The fan only spun for a second and then stopped. Nothing else ever happens. It is always this specific case fan that spins: the one connected to the CPU_FAN2 header. I tried clearing my CMOS already but still no luck. Please help me out here. PC Specs Motherboard: ASRock B550 Steel Legend CPU: Ryzen 5500 GPU: RX 6600 PSU: MSI 750w
Here is the photo of your system with the side panel taken out. (Upload it to imgur.com and share the link). I changed the power supply unit. Are both old and new PSUs modular? Yes or no, tell me right away because standard PSU cables from different models don't work together. You have to switch all the modular cables to brand-new ones. Connecting wires that don't match can damage your computer parts. BTW - this test was useless. You cannot even turn on a PC without a CPU and RAM. And you won't know if your motherboard is broken just by looking at these two units. What exactly were you hoping to find in this experiment?
You need to put in a GPU because your old CPU doesn't send video signals to the motherboard. Plug the video cable from the GPU and monitor into those ports, not the motherboard. If your motherboard has an outdated BIOS or if you're trying to use a Ryzen 5500 on it without updating it with Matisse, Renoir, or Vermeer, the computer won't work right now. Just update the BIOS first, then try installing the Ryzen 5500.
The new power supply is modular and fits nicely into my computer. I thought getting some light from the motherboard would mean it's actually working as expected! 😅😅😅 Check out this link to see what happened: https://imgur.com/a/GKqTuS3 View that same picture at: https://imgur.com/a/GKqTuS3
putting the monitor plugged into the GPU instead of the motherboard? Is your power supply fully connected? Did you split the main power connector into a ten-pin and fourteen-pin section on the PSU side, then connect RAM to slots A2 and B2 (counting them second and fourth from the CPU)? Finally, update the BIOS on your working motherboard so it supports the new CPU.
