Hey, I'm trying to fix rocket league. It's having serious input lag and performance issues.
Hey, I’m experiencing some performance challenges with Rocket League. My system is Windows 11, fully updated, with all drivers current and the motherboard running the latest BIOS. The hardware specs include an Xbox One controller (I used i3 9100f, 16GB DDR4, 3200MHz), Corsair LX series RAM, a WD Blue SN550 SSD, a Seagate Barracuda XFX Rx 570, and a MSI B365M CPU cooler with two fans. I’m using a 144Hz monitor.
The issues I’m facing are frame stuttering or skipping at any FPS cap, even without a free sync monitor. The menus feel choppy and don’t run smoothly—there are noticeable pauses. During gameplay or kicks, I often encounter high ping lasting about 30 seconds. Occasionally, I notice input lag and a sluggish experience, which some call the “heavy car bug,” though it doesn’t quite match what I’m seeing. Restarting my PC seems to help temporarily, but the problem recurs unpredictably.
After lagging in-game, performance drops sharply, and the game feels unresponsive with significant input delay. I’ve tried disabling all display overlays (Discord, game bar, Spotify, etc.), but that didn’t resolve it. Installing Epic Games version didn’t help much either. Running the game without certain apps seems to reduce the strain, though I’m not sure if it’s due to CPU throttling or overheating.
This has been ongoing for about eight months now. It’s starting to affect my motivation to play. I was aiming for 1-second latency and smooth gameplay, but now it feels like a losing battle. The issue is unique to Rocket League—even on a PC that should handle it easily. I’m confused about why only this game is problematic. My Xbox controller is fine, so what’s different?
I’ve tried upgrading my computer, but I don’t want to waste money unnecessarily. My system runs flawlessly for games like Fortnite, GTA, Valorant, F1, and Minecraft. Friends with pre-built setups seem unaffected too. I’m running out of options and wondering if I should just accept the situation or look into other solutions.
I’m seriously thinking about selling my PC for over £1000 or settling for a pre-built setup. Please help me figure this out.
Facing the same problem again. It wasn't a placebo; I felt it during gameplay. Two days ago, I played three games and everything worked fine—like in the example car. But in the third game, about two seconds in, I noticed a frame drop. After it corrected, I had a tough issue that felt like significant input lag. Switching controllers helped slightly, but the problem remained quite bothersome.
