I used to have a Lenovo laptop with an RTX 3060 card, 16GB of RAM, and a Ryzen 7 processor. When I tried to stream on this machine while also using the internet for downloading content, my upload speed went from normal high speeds down to just 5Mbps or even slower. This made me lose connection in games and cut off my voice calls on Discord.

The problem is that my girlfriend streams fine on Twitch with the same internet and hardware she has, but I can't stream properly here. She uses an old DDR3 memory stick and a graphics card from her desktop, while I have much newer parts. Thanks for reading! If you need more info or want to help me out, please let me know.

Here is what happened: I checked my ping on Google.com during the whole streaming session, and it stayed very smooth at 6-13ms with no packet loss. But when I tried to stream directly in Discord right after, my internet speed dropped quickly to 6-8 Mbps (with both ethernet and wifi). Even my phone showed a slow connection of around 360Mbps because the laptop was causing this issue.

I checked on my girlfriend's PC too; she had her download speed stuck at 92Mbps but it didn't drop when she streamed, so that part worked fine. My phone stayed fast even though I left the stream open there. It seems like only my laptop is slowing things down.

One thing to try: leaving just my laptop connected to the modem and router doesn't help either; the connection still drops while I try to play games or use Discord. When I restarted the laptop, it went back up to 800 Mbps+.

Then, after restarting everything and making sure only my laptop was connected again, my internet speed recovered back to normal (930 Mbps). But when I started streaming on Discord World of Warcraft with just the laptop connected, it suddenly disconnected. My friend couldn't hear me over the chat because the connection went back down to 9 Mbps.

Finally, I checked my girlfriend's PC while she was streaming. On that computer, her download speed is locked at 92Mbps but doesn't drop when she streams either. When I tested on my phone again with the stream window open, nothing dropped even though it used to slow things down before. Based on this, it looks like only my laptop is causing the problem.

Thanks for the quick update, and yes, I have Alienware too and face the same problem. I wonder if my internet speed is the issue? I have a connection of 25Mbps and according to that article, 3 Mbps should be enough so it was a dead end for me unless I found this thread. So stop opening unnecessary apps that start up as well as some Windows app running in the background, I did all this manually to run a smooth stream on Twitch.
