It happened just a few months after buying the laptop, and the F12 key was behaving strangely. You're wondering what caused it or if something went wrong.

Was there a minor, dense object that compressed it? Or maybe a small amount of heat caused it to soften slightly? It's nearly impossible to determine with certainty.

It seems a slight excessive force was used when pressing the F12 key. The laptop keys usually have a flat, thin surface with a narrow lip around the edge for stability. You might try lifting the key to see if the thin lip has bent inward or broken.

Inspect the display. It’s possible you ended up closing it due to an obstruction between the screen and the keyboard.

I forgot to note that (it seems silly) but I powered off the laptop the night before and went to sleep. The following day, after getting back from school, I pressed the power button and saw it. Since I didn’t close the lid, I assume nothing was pressing down on it.

It seems like the device appears damaged, though I managed to shut it down fully—probably because the fast boot feature was active.
