Here is how to stop network packets from getting lost suddenly.
I get sudden spikes in packet loss that are 0% all the time, but sometimes they jump up to like 80% or even 100%. I called my internet provider and told them nothing was wrong. When I did a ping test, it stayed stable and showed zero packet loss. I thought the problem was on their servers, but my friends don't have this same issue, even though they use better internet than me. I'm really stuck here. I tried many things without success and I just feel so tired. This is happening to all my games, mostly VALORANT because that's the one game where it gets me angry. Please help if you can tell me what to do or offer some ideas. Thank you very much!
The ISP will always say nothing is wrong just to close their tickets quickly. You need more proof there is a actual issue with the ISP network. Also if it is very random the ISP will not see it if it does not happen while you are on the phone with them. Pretty standard testing methods. First leave a constant ping run to some common ip like 8.8.8.8 in a background window and see if you see issues at the same time the game reports errors. If you do you go to the second step. Run tracert 8.8.8.8 This will likely show nothing interesting the goal is to get the IP addresses of the routers in the path. So this time open 3 cmd windows. Run constant ping to hop 1 (your router ip) Hop 2 ( the ISP first router in most cases) and 8.8.8.8. What you hope to see is loss in hop 2 and the final hop but no loss in hop 1. This pretty much proves there is some issue with the cable between your house and the ISP first router. If you can get a tech that knows more than to read their script they will understand this ping test and maybe spend more time testing from their side. Still if it is very random the ISP will have issues seeing what is causing it. There might be messages in your modem, the ISP can see those too if they choose to spend the time to check. Note if you find no errors doing tests like this when the game is running it is more likely it is something related to the game or other software rather than a real network issue.
