Hi, I understand the issue with your setup. You're using a smart hub with an ISP-provided router, but your connection drops significantly (80 down, 20 up). You're looking for a router that can help manage bandwidth and improve stability, ideally within a budget of £100 to £200.

Do you connect via Ethernet or Wi-Fi? I'm checking because 80 Mbps is sufficient for streaming 4K content on Netflix and playing games.

She enjoys not watching TV, and the Firestick runs smoothly, but once she starts using it, things slow down.

And the bandwidth increases from 4200 to 3k and even lower, BT has fixed the wiring and it remains unchanged.

Are you connecting with the business-grade modem and router? Ensure the older models aren’t causing delays. Have you performed a speed test? What is your internet service provider? Provide more context so we can understand the situation clearly. A connection of around 80 Mbps should comfortably support two users.

I'm based in the UK and use BT services. Unlike in the USA, we don't rely on modems but get routers with our plans. These routers limit connection prioritization, making it hard to manage my internet effectively. I'm curious if a third-party router like Nighthawk can adjust connection priorities. My downloads typically range from 65 to 80 and uploads around 20. For instance, on Black Ops 4, ping fluctuates between 20 and 300+ with bandwidth changes, which affects gameplay performance. It's not just about the code—it impacts all online games.

Unless you own Fiber, your device is probably a combination of modem, gateway, and router in one unit. It provides ample bandwidth for your needs. There might be another factor affecting your network that’s causing this problem. For reference, with a 75/10 connection I once experienced, we managed three HD streams and gaming without issues. It seems something unusual is happening on your side. Does BT offer xDSL or Cable (Coax) service?

aDSl and vDSL operate on the same copper line. Apart from game problems, are there other concerns? It seems your connection might be inconsistent—maybe a gateway or wiring issue is at play. Sharing your modem stats could help identify any signal problems.
