For solid multiplayer experiences beyond co-op, consider DayZ, ARMA 3 Battlefield 3/4, GRID Autosports, Insurgency, Titanfall, and Warframe. For long waits, try Medal of Honor: Warfighter, Ghost Recon, Future Soldier, or War Thunder. These are the games that come to mind quickly.

I enjoyed the release of Magicka 2 and found it received minimal attention. Maybe because its main gameplay remains unchanged. I appreciated the original version.

I prefer playing solo in Left 4 Dead 2 over co-op in Borderlands. The AI difficulty in Borderlands seems to make the game harder than intended, which isn't what I want. I'd rather enjoy the experience without everyone getting hit instantly because of extra enemy damage. If we're up for it, we can tweak the difficulty ourselves.

It hasn't been my test yet, but people say it should be solid (the FC3 co-op didn't go well).

Each of you takes on a specific role in the group, similar to characters in a personal MMORPG experience. Watch YouTube for a clear overview of the cooperative play options.

Borderlands 2 is definitely worth it, especially if you add a few more players—this game becomes a real hit. When I first purchased Borderlands 2, I assumed it was an FPS (which was a mistake), but discovering it’s an RPG left me disappointed since I’ve never played one before. However, the final product turned out to be one of my favorites.
