Looking for alternatives under this cost? The TUF board works, but you can reuse your existing RAM. If you still aim for a 32GB upgrade, going DDR5 is a solid choice.

They’re not offering 32GB storage, and they no longer provide RAM upgrades. Even if you stick with DDR4, you’ll need to purchase additional RAM kits yourself.

Avoid increasing the RAM speed later; DDR5 won't offer lasting benefits without overclocking. Skip the Z790 and opt for a Z690 instead.

It might run straight away on a 690 board since the third board likely can’t flash the BIOS without an older chip, similar to how it works with Ryzen.

I believe many of these z690 models need a bios flashback feature to enable booting without using the CPU.

I believe a B660 board will function perfectly with an MSI Pro-M A and 32GB RAM 4000CL18. It’s only £610, which saves over £200, though performance might be slightly reduced. B660 has some solid value, consider checking h670 for comparable boards like the pg riptide. Skip the 4000c18 if you want better performance—go with 3200, 3600, or higher overclock. Don’t spend extra on that slow 30£ unless it really boosts speed.

I haven't checked lately because sometimes H670 didn't perform well and wasn't much cheaper than Z690. The RAM 4000CL18 remains about 10% faster than 3600CL18, though I'm not sure what that means for real-world speed.

Performance numbers are pretty flat. Stick with the 3200c16 or higher, or push it overclocking—it's a tough wall you can't break through. Buying on price isn't working here (high-end chips over 4000 with bad XMP settings ruin things). I'm not sure if OC will help much unless you're targeting specific workloads. RAM speed isn't the main issue, but tight timings in the 4000-4200 c17 range could help a bit. For the best results, go with an OC chip, a solid OC motherboard, and a decent RAM stick like Ballistix for a 16Gb version.
