This morning my computer shut down by itself. Pressing the power button showed no response—screen was blank, no HDD or power indicators. Fans were spinning but nothing appeared on screen. Even after removing all external and internal drives, the issue persisted. Swapped GPU and RAM, tried a different monitor, but it still didn’t work. No spare PSU found, yet fans seemed active. Power seems reaching CPU and GPU fans, suggesting something is fine. Recent BIOS updates weren’t installed. Next test: revert to an older CPU from a prior upgrade (around 10 years old). If that fails, I’m likely facing MOBO. Any other checks you could try before deciding on a full rebuild?

It seems like either a strange motherboard issue or a CPU problem. I’m leaning toward the CPU because the power cables clearly connect to the motherboard, and you’d likely see it without RAM or SSD. It would be odd if it was just a motherboard failure, since from what I’ve seen, failures usually happen abruptly with no fan spinning.

What model is this? It appears to be an older P67 board that had a recall in 2010 or 2011 concerning malfunctioning SATA ports. EDIT: The mention of the power light seems to point toward a dead CPU. Edited February 14, 2022 by AudiTTFan

I'm going to dismantle it and test my old CPU. It's going to be a mess, but maybe it's time to retire that outdated chip. Perhaps the universe is nudging us toward a simpler future.

It occurs, I invested $300 in an i7-3770K, only to revert to my older 2500K after it failed within a month.

I’ve made a lot more progress than expected, especially since I managed to save the MOBO from a bent pin—though I’m still a bit anxious about replacing the CPU.

The model you're referring to has a Xeon processor inside, and I'm sure it's still running well—hopefully not outdated.

Have you attempted to clear the MOBO firmware? (Disconnect from all power, shut off the power source, remove the internal battery, wait 5 minutes, then reconnect everything) REMEMBER THIS PROCESS WILL REVERSE ALL BIOS CONFIGURATIONS TO THE DEFAULT POSITION
