If it's in the wrong socket, it wouldn't run dual-mode, though it should still be usable. There could be damage involved. Look at my link—it might be a wrong Windows startup configuration.

I just replaced my RAM and then reinstalled it, also flipped a switch in the BIOS, but either way I’m now getting full access to all 16GB of RAM.

I would make sure your BIOS is fully up to date, and then see about running memtest on both sticks of RAM. You either have a bug, or a bad stick of RAM.

I realized what I was looking for and pulled back my question. It was there memstat. I checked MSI and everything looks good, and when I ran memstat I didn’t see any issues. I have some bios pictures and the control panel if you want to take a look.
