Help with OC a GTX 960 SSC
Hey everyone, I just got a GTX 960 SSC and I'm trying to optimize it. I'm worried about hitting a bottleneck with the CPU, but I'm not sure how to handle it. My AMD Athlon II x2 250 is struggling to reach over 60 FPS even on medium settings. People with the same GPU are getting 250 FPS at ultra, while I need 60 FPS. Should I try overclocking the GPU or wait until I upgrade my CPU and RAM?
Unless you're using cs:go, you won't achieve more than 60fps with a 960. This isn't a top-tier card, and your graphics card is already heavily overclocked. That's why it's called the super overclocked version. Its evga settings are essentially the highest overclocked configuration available. Pushing it further is nearly useless. This card won't run Battlefield 4 on ultra at 60fps, and I doubt people claiming 250fps are using a very basic game that needs a lot of power.
It doesn't improve because your GPU is limited by your CPU. Upgrading to a new CPU would likely boost performance further. However, achieving 250fps on ultra with a 960 is unrealistic, and even at 1080p, you won't reach that speed in most games with a 980ti.
