Hi guys
I'm using a 6700k on an Asus Z170 Gaming Pro with 16GB RAM and a Noctua NH-D14 cooler. The cooler is set to x45 and the Vcore is adaptive at 1.290, which results in 1.315 at full load. During Intel Burn Test 2.54 with 10 loops in Very High, I observed the maximum temperature across three cores reached 83 degrees. I believe this is too high given the voltage I'm using. My Vccio is at 1.10 and seems better in auto mode? Any suggestions?

I copied this from another post because it’s quite long to type.
Skylake supports voltages up to around 1.4, but my max is closer to 1.35v. That seems a bit contradictory since I run my Haswell chip at 1.432v, but okay.
To begin overclocking you’ll need Hwmonitor, OCCT, XTU, and CPU Z. After installing them, you can start the process.
Open the BIOS, change the core voltage to manual and set it to 1.0v, then adjust the multiplier to 35x.
Launch Windows and run a stress test in XTU for five minutes. If successful, go back to the BIOS and increase the multiplier to 36x. If not, add 0.025v to the core voltage.
Next, restart with the new multiplier and repeat the stress test. Always aim to keep temperatures below 75°C max, usually around 70°C.

Since you're using air cooling, you won't get as much cooling as with water, but the unit is quite powerful enough to support solid overclocking.

Hi everyone, I own a 6700k on an Asus Z170 Gaming Pro with 16GB RAM. The cooler is a Noctua NH-D14. Currently at x45 and Vcore Adaptive 1.290, it reaches 1.315 under full load. During Intel Burn Test 2.54 with 10 loops in Very High mode, the peak temperature across three cores was 83 degrees. I believe this is too high given my voltage setting. My Vccio is at 1.10 and seems better in auto mode. Any suggestions? How's your case airflow? What are your ambient temperatures? I might need to inspect the cooler mount. Just ran another test – ambient 22°C, 6600k, 4.5Vcore, NH-15S, CPU temp 64°C. Your 6700k will run hotter due to hyper threading compared to my 6600k. 83°C feels quite high for me, but it's still within the thermal limits for that CPU. An IBT test would be much hotter in real use. Check out this guide:
