Help with laptop unexpected shutdown under specific conditions.
Hey everyone, I just bought the ASUS ROG STRIX G18 and have since added 4TB storage and 32GB RAM. Recently, I encountered a strange problem while playing tough games like Cyberpunk 2077. The laptop would suddenly shut down in certain areas of the game, then crash when I restarted. It seems to happen after about a minute of running around. I thought it might be a thermal issue since I upgraded the hardware, but temperatures look normal on hwinfo64. I also tried the AIDA64 stability test and ran FurMark alongside it, which didn’t cause power loss. Windows Event Viewer didn’t show any errors, and even hwinfo reported normal power use. One guess is FurMark might not be fully utilizing the CPU cores. Support suggested reinstalling the system, but I’m unsure if that’s the right path. I’m hoping you can suggest some troubleshooting steps or tips. Thanks!
Thanks for sharing! I tested it and reached around 55% of a pass. Then something went wrong—everything froze, the timer stopped, and I couldn’t exit the test. I had to perform a full reset. I also ran the Asus BIOS RAM diagnostic, but it came back clean with no issues.
The memory display seems questionable, showing 2x 2GB instead of actual specs. It also fails to recognize brand or model details. I'm unsure if PassMark Memtest86 can support DDR5 yet—maybe try the free version without restrictions. Could you confirm whether the RAM is properly seated? Also, could you share more specifics about the sticks, like brand, model, and manufacturer?
Thanks for the update. The passmark test cleared, which is good. It seems the RAM should be properly seated since it was my first install with Kingston sticks (KVR48S40BS8K2-32). I’m not sure if reseating helps now that it passed, but it’s worth trying just in case.
