Help with identifying the reason behind crashes.
Hey there! I recently swapped my RTX 3080 (MSI Ventus 3x OC) for a 6900 XT (Sapphire Nitro+ SE). The 3080 began behaving oddly, causing my screen to freeze and the fan speed to spike to maximum. I attempted to use it in another machine and the same problems appeared there too. Yesterday, I replaced the 3080 with a used model and still encountered crashes. My system sometimes shuts down completely and fails to restart by itself. There were times during gameplay lasting nearly four hours and after closing and reopening a game. I've checked several troubleshooting steps: event viewer didn't show much, OCCT power test passed, Memtest86 found no errors, temperatures looked normal for the GPU during games, but not enough to explain the crashes. When the GPU temperature hit around 50°C during a crash, it was still at 110°C otherwise. My setup includes a Ryzen 5 5600X, Sapphire Nitro+ RX 6900 XT, and a few other components with decent health. I'm hoping someone can help identify what's causing these issues or suggest a solution. I'm short on time for gaming and this is really frustrating.
Identified major issues in the event viewer that go beyond typical kernel power warnings. Consider performing an extended GPU stress test over a longer period, such as an hour. When the crash occurs on the 6900XT, does it trigger a BSOD or simply shut down abruptly? I recommend verifying all power connections in the PC and checking for any potential short circuits. This strongly suggests a power supply unit (PSU) problem. The safest confirmation would be replacing the PSU with one from another manufacturer to see if the issue persists.
No kernel power issues were detected. The only problems appeared with certain drivers. There were no crashes linked to the crash itself. Errors seem to show up when the system boots up. Regarding the crash, there was no blue screen; the computer shut down immediately. I recently played Hogwarts Legacy and experienced another crash—game lagged briefly before restarting.
