Hi, your Dell G515 5587 has an Intel Core i5-8300H processor, GTX 1060 Max-Q graphics, and a 256GB SSD. You noticed the game runs smoothly on the SSD but experiences sudden performance drops every minute. It switches to Intel HD Graphics when GTX usage falls below 10%, causing frame rates to plummet from around 50 to just 1 or 9 fps. When GTX usage rises again, the frame rate returns to normal. You've adjusted graphics settings and even lowered resolution to 720p, but the issue persists. The problem seems linked to the GTX driver or thermal behavior. Have you checked the latest updates for your graphics card? Consider reaching out to Dell support or checking community forums for similar reports.

Turn off the built-in graphics since it could be toggling between power-saving and active modes.

Attempted to fix the issue, but disabling Intel HD Graphics caused the game to fail to launch and the GPU registration to stop.

Keep the built-in graphics enabled because your screen is directly linked to that GPU. Aim for a fresh installation of the NVIDIA drivers. Open the NVIDIA control panel and switch the global settings from automatic selection to NVidia—this might stop the integrated GPU from behaving oddly. Verify your laptop’s PSU is functioning properly. Ensure you have sufficient VRAM; if the issue appears only with that game, reinstall it. Good luck resolving the problem!

I completed all the steps, then switched back to an older driver (the newest one Dell released in December, excluding Nvidia official notebook drivers). The issue remains unchanged with Intel HD; it simply halts GPU usage and causes frame drops. I monitored temperatures, CPU temps, system load, and SSD activity—no signs of overheating. During the "down-phase" temps stayed normal, CPU varied between 70% and 98%, and even after GPU usage dropped, CPU slowed down, indicating no CPU bottleneck. The situation persists even when the SSD is idle. I reduced graphics settings to low and lowered resolution to 50%, but performance didn’t improve significantly when the game stopped using the GPU. It’s not a power problem since other games and benchmarks ran smoothly. I’ve explored everything in the Nvidia control panel and still have no solution.
