Help! Windows lag during downloads
I began with the technical details before addressing the problem. I have a 7th generation Intel i7-9700k processor, a Gigabyte Z390 Aorus Pro Corsair RMX1000 with 32GB, a 3000 Gigabyte 2080ti waterforceb (open loop CPU/GPU), a Samsung SSD 850 EVO 250GB boot drive, an Intel M.2 660p 1TB game drive. I recently performed a factory reset of Windows 10 due to software issues that were affecting performance. Since then, downloading or installing games through Steam, Battle.net, or Origin has caused my CPU usage to spike dramatically—reaching up to 30%—which slows down the entire system, making even simple tasks like moving a mouse extremely difficult. This issue seems linked to the Intel M.2 drive, emerging only after the reset, and it doesn’t impact the Samsung boot drive. I’m unsure what’s causing it, but it appears to be related to system processes interacting with the M.2 storage. Any suggestions or starting points for diagnosis would be appreciated.
Have you updated all the newest drivers? Installing Windows Generic Drivers or using old ones may negatively affect performance.
