Help! Strange slow frame rate and high GPU/CPU consumption in Valorant.
I experience unusually low frame rates while playing valorant. My previous setup was:
GPU: Msi geforce rtx 2080ti ventus
CPU: ryzen 1600x, overclocked to 4.5 ghz
Motherboard: asus crosshair vi (wifi)
RAM: corsair vengance 16 gigs at 3200
Previously, I achieved around 120 - 140 fps on low settings for 1280x960. Raising the quality or resolution had little impact, so I suspected a CPU limitation affecting the GPU and upgraded to the ryzen 5800x3d, which allowed me to run valorant elite at 3600mhz.
Hoping to reach over 400 fps, I was let down by similar performance.
I checked benchmarks on YouTube using comparable specs; one player ran valorant at 1080p max and achieved 600+ FPS, while others reported 400+ as well. Benchmark sites also showed strong results.
At this point, I’m puzzled about the problem. Could there be something missing?
Additional notes: only valorant and discord valorant consume about 25% CPU and 20% GPU. I’ve tried multi-threaded rendering without it and saw no significant change.
Quick update: the issue appears specific to valorant. I recently played rocket league and it performed flawlessly.
Update: midgame play with afterburner showed the GPUs clock speed never exceeded 1350, and valorant’s usage stayed steady at 18% in Task Manager.
Third update: I attempted valorant since it’s CPU-intensive; it ran smoothly with over 600 frames.
Does this suggest the problem is only with valorant?
Edit: I went into my BIOS and enabled DOCP but haven’t noticed a big improvement yet.
Another update: while playing some competitive games, GPU usage stayed low (8-9%) and CPU around 18-20%.
I uninstalled and reinstalled graphics drivers without success.
For clarity, my current build is:
GPU: Msi geforce rtx 2080ti ventus
CPU: ryzen 7 5800x3d
Motherboard: asus crosshair vi (wifi)
RAM: 32 gigs (dual channel) trident z royal elites docp'd to 3600mhz
It seems there might be an issue with a specific setting in Valorant that prevents full system access.
It is recommended to turn off VSync and Antialiasing, boost resolution and clarity, and activate Future Frame Rendering.
Vsync remains disabled by default, but I don't recall encountering future frame rendering options. You should check the game settings or the NVIDIA control panel for such features.
Sure, I've checked all the possible settings in Valorant and still haven't noticed any changes. Could there be something else going on?
