Hey everyone! I'm setting up Windows 8.1 on a laptop and had to format the boot drive since I needed a clean installation. I'm installing from a USB drive. Now, when I try to install Windows, I have to pick a partition, but every one of them is GPT, not NFST (or NSFT—I don't know). This is preventing the laptop from booting, so I can't proceed with the installation. I used GParted, but even then, the USB won't boot after burning the ISO. Any help would be super appreciated! Thanks!

In my view, the optimal choice is to convert the entire drive to NTFS and then reinstall it.

But how? There isn't any operating system installed there.

Start from a working USB drive or installation disc. During advanced configuration, you may prepare your drives prior to the actual installation.

It uses NTFS. Please format it as a Windows bootable drive compatible with both NTFS and Fat32, ensuring it’s bootable on an Ubuntu USB.

It starts up using the USB drive to Windows setup. I navigate to Advanced settings and format the partitions, yet the system remains in GPT mode.

Sure, you're all set to start from a GPT drive as long as your BIOS is set up properly. I'd share this guide to help with your issue.

Stop, stop! GTP (gparted) defines how partitions are stored on the disk—it’s about the file system table, not the partition type itself. Old systems relied on the MBR table, while newer ones use GPT. To support EFI you need GPT next. You can have GPT and NTFS together.

However, I receive a notification that installation isn't possible since it's running GPT.

The is an application called Rufus (google it) which is used to create bootable USB. Use that to create the bootable USB and make sure your bios setting is correct before booting in to USB and you should be able to formatting the whole HDD in NTFS. If you can not boot tell me the model of your laptop Edit: Forgot to reload the page before posting and a lot of post have passed me.
