Help overclocking the I5 6600k
I just upgraded from an fx 6300 4.4ghz to an I5 6600k. I installed the new cpu and motherboard (Asus Z170-a) and it started up well, leaving most settings on auto. Performance was great at first. Then I tried overclocking and managed 4.3ghz with 1.248v (offset voltages). I passed a 3-hour stress test on occt. 4.4ghz didn’t seem stable even with 1.28v and llc at level 4, so I stopped there. After that, I tested some games but they kept stuttering and dropping FPS. Why is this happening? I also noticed my auto voltage at stock was 1.32v, which feels a bit high. Thanks in advance.
I just removed my motherboard and tried to better match it with the backplate. After restarting my BIOS, voltages returned to normal: 1.16v for 3.5ghz and 1.24v for 3.9(turbo). This is my first overclocking attempt on Intel. On AMD I would turn off turbo and use cool n quiet so the CPU can throttle when idle. Can I do the same on Intel? Disable turbo and enable speedstep.
