Help! Overclocking fails or something went wrong.
Hello! I completed my build recently and am working on achieving a stable overclock for both the CPU and GPU.
My setup includes:
i7 6700K at 4.5GHz
Gigabyte Z170X Gaming 3
16GB DDR4 at 3200MHZ Avexir Blitz Red LED
MSI 1070 Gaming X (170 cores + 525MB RAM)
Seasonic M12II EVO 750W
I first adjusted my CPU using the "CPU FREQUENCY" setting in the motherboard, which auto-adjusts for overclocking. I reached a stable 4.6 but opted to keep it at 4.5 for safety.
For the GPU, I used MSI Afterburner and Furmark testing. The results were promising:
Core Voltage: 100%
Power Limit: 126%
Temperature: 92°C
Core Clock: +130
Memory Clock: +635
After a 40-minute test, it remained stable, but during gameplay (Rust Battle Royale) the performance dropped after 15 minutes.
I then re-ran the CPU and GPU overclock tests using Valley Benchmark and MSI Afterburner. The GPU achieved:
Core Voltage: 100%
Memory Clock: +525MB
Core Clock: +170
After a 30-minute test, everything worked well.
However, when running Furmark with +0 core and +500 memory, the GPU froze after 15 minutes, and I had to restart my rig.
I tried again with +0 core and +500 memory, but it also froze instantly.
Currently, I’m experimenting with Furmark using +170 core and 0 memory for a 15-minute test, then stopping it.
The situation is frustrating, especially when the GPU shuts off during testing.
Since not all tasks load a GPU equally, it's possible to run Prime 95 smoothly for long periods, but not on high-intensity scenarios like Battlefield 3 for over an hour.
Yeah, everything was smooth, run a furmark test of +1h, temps never went higher than 70 with stock fan curve, then i did a custom curve and even before and after these OCs never went higher than 63c
92C is extremely high, with a maximum GPU temperature of 94°C. It's necessary to reverse those overclocking adjustments.
That's the maximum limit. it's not the temperatures that reached; the highest temperatures with the OC have been 70°C, usually around 63°C.
But I handled those with Valley, so why would Furmark suddenly freeze and disconnect from the GPU? :S
